MONTREUX

At the eastern end of Lac Leman -Lake Geneva as it is often called- is Montreux, one of Switzerlands's most beautiful resorts, surrounded by pleasant hills & snow-capped mountains. Described by Byron as "Beautiful as a Dream" and immortalised by his poem "The Prisoner of Chillon", Montreux is a town of fine shops, gardens, and flower-garlanded promenades. It is also an excellent excursion centre with lake steamer, and mountain railway trips easily available.

Apart from any facilities the hotel may have to offer there is a Mini Golf course very near, also boats for hire at about 2 francs an hour for rowboats and 4 francs an hour for sailboats on the quayside nearby, and for those who like less strenuous enjoyment there are regular lake steamer trips.

In the Casino-Kursaal gardens is a heated swimpool and also courts where boule can be played. Afternoon concerts & tea dances are held here during the week.

The Chateau de Chillon built out into the lake on the east is well-known all over the world for its architectural beauty and historic interest, and is open to visitors.

There are many interesting walks to places along the lakeside, and easy walks on well-kept paths among the hillside villages to the north giving magnificent views over lake and mountain. Trolley 'bus, auto 'bus mountain railways and funiculars are at hand to help us with our sightseeing.
